Why Do We Recommend It?

This is a unique area for ski touring, with vast skiable areas and different terrain from steep couloirs to easy and moderate slopes. So, it’s great for any level of experience.

It’s also very special as you can ski from the mountain peaks right down to the Atlantic Ocean below. So, this is a special ski touring experience that we believe you’ll never forget.

Experienced and trusted ski touring partners.

Is It Right for Me?

This is a great trip to get into nature, enjoy the beauty of the Troll Peninsular and earn some great runs down the slopes. You don’t need any ski touring experience and you receive some training and advice while you’re there. However, if you are an experienced or expert skier, you’ll also find lots of adventure here and the guides will help you find inspirational routes.

So, this is good for all levels of skiing or snowboarding experience. You should have at least average fitness though. It’s a great option for a group of friends.

  1. Arrival The Day Before The Tour Starts

Upon request guests can be picked up at Akureyri Airport and driven to our Lodge.

When the check-in at our Lodge is completed our guests will have a short meeting with our staff and the guides. After the meeting and a little chat, dinner is served. In the evening guests can relax and enjoy a drink and some snacks while looking at the program for the coming tour.

  2. The Tour The Days to Come

Ready for a new and amazing adventure? You better be! You are about to have the experience of a lifetime. On the schedule we have skiing/boarding, adventure, exploring, and unique scenery, a spectacular view and some wonderful, unforgettable moments.

After breakfast there will be a short briefing regarding avalanche safety and beacon training and ski-/snowboard equipment adjustment, just so everyone will be ready.

Then the fun part starts; ski touring and exploring new lines and enjoying the breathtaking view, while skiing down to the Arctic Ocean. Terrain selection is determined by the guides and is based on avalanche assessment, weather and the skiing ability of the group. Your safety is our number one priority.

After a few hours of touring, we will find a great spot for lunch and some refreshments. Then our ride continues through the day. We have reached an agreement with some of the local farmers, allowing us to drop in at the farms to taste some Icelandic shark, smoked arctic char or even smoked lamb. After detaching the skis each day you can enjoy some of the adventure packages we have to offer, e.g. whale watching, sea angling on our private boat or horseback riding on the great Icelandic horse. It is also possible to bathe in Iceland’s nicest nature baths in an unforgettable environment or go to the local swimming pools. The other option is simply to sit down at the Lodge to relax and unwind with a glass of wine or a pint of beer.

Later in the evening the group will have dinner together at the Lodge and discuss the great adventures of the day. In case of bad weather and down days you have a great opportunity to explore Iceland in a different way. You are able to enjoy all the activities we have to offer.

  3. Departure Departure Day

This is the last day of the tour. After breakfast we will head out to the mountains to enjoy our last day. On the schedule this day is; exploring and to keep on trying new routes. When we arrive back to the Lodge guests can take a shower or simply jump in the hot tub before enjoying the final drink and make their farewells to the guides and their new friends.

Guests will then be driven back to Akureyri where they can either go straight to the airport or spend some time in Akureyri.

Ski Touring in Iceland

Our Skiing in Iceland program is made for skiers who want quality skiing with the help of our professional guides, in the best ski touring area in Iceland and exclusive accommodation while keeping the budget as low as possible. We provide the lodge, the guide and transportation. You take care of the rest. This Skiing in Iceland program is made for a group of 5-7 persons.

Our main skiing area is the Troll Peninsula in northern Iceland. The area is in our opinion by far the best ski touring area in Iceland. There are few places in the world with as many possibilities for ski touring with terrain that fits all types of skiers. The area is vast and largely unexplored with amazing views where ever you look.

During winter you can ski until dark and watch the majestic northern lights dance in the sky. In springtime, there is nothing like skiing down slopes in between the towering peaks in the midnight sun, ending the ride where the shoreline meets the North Atlantic.

It is also possible to traverse over to the next fjords and ski down to the coastline or into the small valleys, where you will find untouched snow and probably make the first descent of that run.

Prepare for different skiing conditions; fresh powder skiing, skiing in the stable spring corn snow, which is perfect for steep and extreme skiing and more exposed lines than you normally find where avalanches are more likely. Our vertical drop is up to 1,500m or approximately 4,500 ft. in the unbelievable Arctic mountains.

After a great day in the mountains, it is possible to bathe in Iceland’s nicest hot natural baths in an unforgettable environment or go to the great swimming pools that are located close to our Lodge. In case of bad weather, there are plenty of activities and things to see in the area.

At Scandic Ski touring Lodge the meals are not included, but the Lodge has a kitchen where the group will prepare their own meals.
